This is the start of our blog documenting the progress of our brumby ponies who have come join us at SEEC.

Our long awaited "outback" ponies arrived safely on Tuesday 27 July 2010.  Mundrabilla Black Jack and Mundrabilla Kit Kat have lived in a wild herd until approx. 10 weeks ago.  They were started by their station owners and have arrived her at SEEC to start their new life as part of our family.  They'll become the first pony members of our riding school.

Kit Kat has had more handling than Black Jack and is less timid, but once under headcollar, they are both lovely, willing boys.  We are so looking forward to bringing them along.

As expected we will be spending the first 6-8 weeks getting to know them and going through an introductory red light therapy phase to bring any physical issues they may have to the surface.  They have had 3 sessions so far and are beginning to open up with each one.  After their 8th session, they can have their first JENT session which will enable their bodies to move more freely.  As with over 90% of horses, the boys have the usual fascial distortions over the shoulder area, however their backs are lovely and solid, with hardly any contraction - this is actually quite rare!  Until they have had their JENT sessions we'll be taking it very easy with them, barely asking for any trot or circle work.

Today was our second weekend with them and we did some light in hand rope work, just to remind them that they'll need to preserve their manners and listening skills.   Kit Kat was lovely and surprised me with his quick learning ability. In no time, he had worked out he was to walk the circle then halt on each half or quarter. He responded well to a light force of effort to all four quarters indicating he was to move off.

Black Jack was a little less advanced. We were happy when he finally settled and walked the circle instead of trotted.  With one person giving the aids and the other holding his headcollar out on the circle setting the pace he responded very quickly and well.   He's quite timid and unsure, but in time we know he'll be fine.

Both our ponies are gorgeous. With a little more time we hope they feel like they are in a good place.
